I just remember one thing. Back in Junior high, I had this ritual to spend my Saturday afternoon reading book and had afternoon snack, choco and choco cheese bread. LOL. While many of my friends were put and about the whole afternoon riding or strolling around the city. It was my introvert side controlling me.
Till this very day, I still love to enjoy good bread and pastry. Although I left my Saturday afternoon habit behind. One of pastry shop I tried not long ago was Bellevue Pastry Shop.
For Bandung hip and young citizen, the name "Bellevue" may sounds familiar. Yes, it's one french-italian restaurant located at G.H. Universal Hotel. This pastry shop is its sub located on Jalan Pasar Kaliki. Just before Istana Plaza if you drive/come from RHSH.
I like the bread they served and the place was interesting. Although I do have some notes on the layout and display in store.
If you look for the sign, I don't think you'll find one. Instead you'll see " Fat Dragon" sign on the building. On the second floor, there's a dimsum restaurant. That's why. Fat Dragon is still from G.H Universal hotel.
Coming inside, I found the layout a bit odd. From outside, it looks pretty with white shelves. Turned out those are shelves for miscellaneous items they sell. Everything vintage and victorian look. like storage boxes, sign. Also cookies in many flavors and shapes.
Behind the shelves, you see counters full of pastry and bread. I tried cronuts, "roti unyil" and danish. so the cake, pastry and bread somewhat seemed like hidden, and they main focus on store was the miscellaneous things. I do think the pastry and bread need to be more visible.
Tried three different cronut. Original, green tea and red velvet. All were delicious My favorite was green tea. It filled with pastry cream with green tea cream and almond on top. Red velvet filled with cream cheese filling and top with red velvet crumble. But the red velvet flavor wasn't that strong. The original also had filling inside.
For danish, sausage roll and "roti unyil" they were also nice. "Roti unyil" is small bread. Best known as gift from Bogor, West Java. Unyil is name of hand puppet character that exist on TV since 1990's. The word "unyil" also means little. IDK if beacuse of the puppet that small or it's actually means "little" since the first place. I can tell you that they were generous with the filling. The size of sausage roll and roti unyil might be small, but not with the filling.
Inside the store they only provide two tables with four seats each table. And some tables outdoor. contrast to the store that have many things, the tables were lack of decoration. No table cloth, or even flower. It's empty. Plus the plate they used to serve bread and pastry was also white. So white on white and the color only came from the food. Didn't look good on the camera.
Put that aside, I think what will make most female happy is the promo. The had, and still have discount promotion for cronut. Buy 2 get 3. For Danish, sausage roll, and roti unyil, 50% off at 6pm - 9pm every day. Especially for Monday and Thursday, pastry also has 50% discount promotion from 6pm - 9pm. I had my eyes on choux and some of the cakes and say to myself, I need to find time. LOL
